CHAT was created to address the social determinants of health, ensuring that immigrant and refugee communities have access to resources that support their overall well-being. Our mission is to foster the health and well-being of these communities through education, arts, advocacy, and access to care.
Through our annual health conference, fall festival, and direct community outreach, CHAT provides essential resources for adults, families, and other immigrant- and refugee-focused organizations. By connecting individuals to care and supportive programs, we help build a healthier, more resilient community.

Health Conference
CHAT’s Annual Health Conference unites health practitioners, community leaders, and advocates to address the unique health needs of Houston’s refugee communities. This annual event highlights practical strategies and proven methods to support health and wellness, with sessions covering mental health, art therapy, social-emotional learning, and better access to care. Attendees gain hands-on tools and insights to help improve health outcomes in refugee and immigrant communities.
The conference features presentations from elected officials and community leaders, as well as a special student art showcase created to inspire positive change. With expert talks, inspiring stories, and interactive sessions, participants leave with new ideas and connections that empower them to make a lasting impact on community health. Through this event, CHAT helps strengthen partnerships and promotes a healthier, more connected community.
Fall Festival
CHAT’s Annual Fall Festival is a colorful, family-friendly event celebrating the vibrant cultures and diversity of Houston’s Gulfton area. Free and open to all, the festival features live music, cultural performances, a lively fashion show, art activities, and a pumpkin patch for families to enjoy. Guests can explore hands-on art projects, watch student performances, and enjoy delicious food—all while connecting with neighbors and local organizations.
Beyond the fun, the festival offers valuable community resources, including free health services like COVID-19 vaccines and screenings. With exciting activities, community support, and a welcoming atmosphere, CHAT’s Fall Festival brings people together to celebrate culture, enjoy new experiences, and support one another.
Community Health Workers
Through our Community Health Workers Program, CHAT hires and trains local community members to support the health needs of immigrants and refugees in the Gulfton area. These trusted workers provide health education in multiple languages, helping individuals and families understand their options and find the care they need.
Our Community Health Workers address key issues like managing chronic conditions, supporting mental health, and improving overall wellness. By connecting people to healthcare services and social resources, they empower families to live healthier, happier lives.
