This past Sunday, November 7, 2021, sadly, the apartment that was formerly occupied by our CHAT Academy program at the Ashford Crescent Oaks Apartments suffered fire damage. This apartment is located next door to our current CHAT space where until that Sunday we were hosting most of our youth and community programming.
You can imagine the surprise of our team when they arrived on Monday and saw the damage caused by the fire. The smoke damage in our apartment was so severe that our team had to work outside on the lawn to deliver our after school programming. It was not ideal, but our team was determined not to stop our community services from taking place – even if outside!
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the fire. At the moment, however, our services have been reduced to only one room in the four-room apartment because there is still water damage in the three remaining rooms. We are making do and continuing our programming still.
CHAT needs a new space to call home!
On behalf of our staff, our community, our leadership, and our board of directors, we are asking for your help. We need your support now more than ever to be able to continue our much-needed programs and services in the Gulfton community. This has been an unexpected challenge and it has served as a reminder that as a growing organization we need another space to continue operating.
If you can, please help us by making a monetary donation today. Share this with your friends and family and ask them to help us as well.
Every amount helps.
You don’t have to wait until Giving Tuesday to help CHAT … you can give to us today!
